Calella

The seaside town of Calella is a popular destination for both Spanish and foreign tourists. Situated in Catalonia, on the Costa Maresme, just 50 kilometres north of Barcelona, Calella  is a modern resort with lots of amenities, facilities and three kilometres of sandy beaches. 

There is always something going on in Calella; for those looking for a busy and upbeat holiday, with lots of organised activities, then the resort is for you. Every month there is a fiesta, cultural event or other fun event. Calella is an ideal destination for families and those looking for a resort with everything on your doorstep.

About town
Calella is an upbeat and prosperous town, the tourist capital of the Costa Maresme, which is located in between the better known coastlines of the Costa Dorada and Costa Brava.

The resort offers the holidaymaker a host of attractions and facilities. A huge selection of bars, restaurants and a vibrant nightlife is on offer. During the day there is always heaps to do. Head to the beach for a range of water sports and beach activities; during the summer there are lots of organized activities for children, plus dancing, parties and lots more.

There are plenty of amenities around Calella: supermarkets, souvenir shops, and lots of smaller local shops, medical centres, post office are available in this modern resort; in fact everything one would need to make their holiday stay comfortable and enjoyable. 

Calella is a modern and busy resort. During the summer months the town gets pretty full up with tourists, so if you are looking for a relaxed and traditional holiday resort, then Calella is perhaps not the right choice. The old Calella town is worth a visit, to find out about the history of the area and a stroll around the narrow, cobbled streets, taking in the ancient buildings. Here you can also find some more traditional tapas bars and restaurants.

Eating out
There are heaps of bars and restaurants in Calella, both traditional and international. So whatever taste you will find a restaurant for you. There is also a buzzing nightlife for those looking to enjoy a full on and fun holiday!

Places to visit
With the city of Barcelona just 50 kilometres from Calella, there is no excuse not to visit this historical, cultural and cosmopolitan city. 

If you want to get away from resort life then head to the Park Dalmau de Calella. This urban park is situated just outside of main Calella town. A wonderful green outdoor space, perfect for getting away from the hustle and bustle of town and beach life. 

All along the coastline you can visit both traditional and modern resorts. In particular we recommend the traditional destination of Sant Feliu de Guixols, Arenys de Mar and neighbouring Pineda de Mar.

For outdoor pursuits enthusiasts, the Montenegro National Park is just a short drive away. 

Calella Beaches
Calella boasts a three kilometre golden sand beach and although Calella can get quite crowded in the summer months, local organisations have made the beaches wide with over 50,000 square meters of sand and therefore they never feel crowded. They are also spotlessly clean and every day there are a host of activities organised for both adults and children.

Climate
Calella enjoys an agreeable Mediterranean climate with long warm summers tempered by cooling sea breezes, glorious mild autumn and spring days and winters that can be windy, wet, and suddenly sunny.
